Hi! My name is Marvin Bottum and I’m a third generation Navy veteran; my family has proudly served in WWI, WWII and Vietnam. Today, I serve as a state executive councilman for the Department of California. I’m also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans organization.
Throughout my life I’ve strived to become active in a variety of leadership positions including the Boy Scouts, which I pursued diligently and earned the title of Eagle Scout at age 16. It was here that my continual role in civil tasks and community outreach taught me the principals of self discipline, thinking outside the box and inspired me to later become involved in youth recreation.
During my time in high school I also enjoyed interactive positions in student government, the cross country and track team, chorus and theatrical plays. Participating in such organizations groomed me to become a well-rounded and successful adult.
After graduation I earned an associates degree at a junior college and then soon joined the Navy where I was promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class in less than three years. When I had completed my service in Vietnam I left the military to return to school and earn a bachelors degree in recreation administration.
My first post-graduation job after college was as a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America. Later on I was hired by the Department of the Army to run youth activities on the base camps in Germany. It wasn’t until I was in command of a youth program for the Air Force at the Beale AFB that teens became interested in the sport of paintball. The popularity of paintball spread to the servicemen and grew steadily until a full-scale paintball field was established by the Rod and Gun Club.
When I decided to begin an online business, my passion for paintball was revived and the purpose of my business became clear. “What I like about paintball is the adrenaline rush that it brings, which I’ve missed since returning from Vietnam.”
Check back for updates about the golf tournament series I’ve planned for April 2010, in which all proceeds will go to the Disabled American Veterans society.
